Henry Onyekuru has emerged as a key summer target for Antalyaspor manager Emre Belözoğlu, who is actively rebuilding his squad after a turbulent season, NaijNaira can report.
Belözoğlu, formerly of Inter Milan and Atlético Madrid, took over in January and managed to steer the team clear of relegation. As reported by Ajansspor, he’s already reached out to Onyekuru, hoping to lure the Nigerian winger back to Turkey.
The 28-year-old is currently a free agent after parting ways with Saudi Pro League side Al-Fayha. Known for his past spells with Galatasaray, Monaco, and Anderlecht, Onyekuru has a strong record in the Turkish Super Lig. He famously scored twice in Galatasaray’s 5-0 win over Antalyaspor in March 2019.
Despite interest from other Turkish clubs and Gulf sides, talks with Antalyaspor have slowed due to wage disagreements.
Still, club insiders believe a deal is within reach.
Belözoğlu wants to inject more pace and creativity into the attack, and sees Onyekuru as central to that vision.
“If the right moves are made, we will do everything possible to take Antalyaspor to the level it deserves,” Belözoğlu said.
Onyekuru previously helped Nigeria secure a bronze medal at AFCON 2019 in Egypt.
