Erling Haaland backed after angering Man City boss Pep Guardiola

Erling Haaland, the Manchester City striker, has received support after angering his manager, Pep Guardiola, by refusing to break an “unwritten rule” and take a penalty against Leeds.

West Ham star Michail Antonio claims that Haaland was right not to take the penalty and instead give Ilkay Gundogan the chance to complete a hat-trick.

Guardiola was unhappy with Haaland’s decision and shouted at him from the touchline, but Antonio believes that it is an unwritten rule between players to give the penalty to the player who has the opportunity to score a hat-trick.

Despite Guardiola insisting that Haaland should have taken the penalty, Gundogan stepped up and missed, but City held on for the win.

Guardiola reiterated after the match that Haaland should have taken the spot kick, but also praised his generosity and team spirit.
