Exclusive: Why Man Utd failed to sign Liverpool Target Ahead Of Marcel Sabitzer
Two reasons have been cited as to why Erik ten Hag wanted Liverpool target Ryan Gravenberch instead of Marcel Sabitzer when Manchester United needed a direct replacement for the injured Christian Eriksen earlier in the month.
Two major factors led to Manchester United’s failure to attain their target, Liverpool-linked Erik ten Hag, ahead of Marcel Sabitzer on transfer deadline day.
Firstly, Bayern Munich was reportedly not keen on letting Ryan Gravenberch — whom Ten Hag knows from their time together at Ajax and whom Liverpool had already shown interest in — leave.
Additionally, the 20-year-old midfielder himself is said to have preferred staying put and fighting for a place in the team at Bayern instead of moving to Old Trafford.
This shows how mutual attraction between Ten Hag and Gravenberch was not a deciding factor when it came to possibly transferring.
In the end, Marcel Sabitzer ended up joining Man Utd; with him being willing to take the leap and reunite with Ten Hag being an important factor in him deciding to make the switch.
