The Federal Government has revealed that plans to introduce a new and improved minimum wage package for civil servants are underway and slated for implementation in the second quarter of 2024.

This announcement was made by Ngige at the Nigeria Labour Congress’ 13th National Delegates’ Conference in Abuja.

Necessary provisions have been put into place to ensure that this plan is realized.

The former Anambra state governor also appealed to organised labour and other trade unions to stop acting on their own accord, as such behaviour contravenes the statutory codes of the Trade Union Act, which mandates newly elected officials to undertake training at the Michael Imuodu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS).

In addition, the federal government has announced plans to increase workers’ salaries in 2023 as a result of economic problems posed by inflation.

The presidential committee on salaries is currently reviewing wages issues and is expected to make an official pronouncement early next year.
