Fadekemi Branch, the wife of popular Nollywood actor Femi Branch, recently shared her experience of being detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Mrs. Branch was arrested on December 21, 2019, for allegedly duping a UK-based woman named Itohan Emwionkpa.
However, Mrs. Branch claimed that she never had any dealings with Emwionkpa and that the allegation was untrue.
She spent five days in detention and was released only after paying the sum of N3,056,000 to the EFCC authorities.
Her late mother was also detained to ensure that she showed up at the EFCC office in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Mrs. Branch sued the anti-graft agency for breach of her constitutional rights and obtained a judgment in her favor on July 22, 2022.
The EFCC was ordered to pay her the sum of N3,056,000, interest on the amount, damages in the sum of N2,000,000, and cost of the action in the sum of N1,500,000.
Mrs. Branch is currently seeking the committal of the former EFCC Chairman, Bawa, for failing to comply with the court’s judgment.
