The resignation of Femi Gbajabiamila from his position as the lawmaker representing Surulere Lagos Constituency has triggered a by-election in the area.

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, declared the seat vacant after receiving Gbajabiamila’s letter of resignation during a plenary session in Abuja.

In the letter, Gbajabiamila announced that he would be taking up a new role as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu and would no longer be a member of the House of Representatives.

Following his resignation, Gbajabiamila moved a motion of urgent public importance regarding the need for the federal and state governments to take action to mitigate the effects of flood devastation before leaving the chamber to cheers and accolades from members.
