National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced a registration exercise for unemployed individuals in all 20 local government areas of Lagos State.

The registration exercise which started on April 17, 2023, will end on April 28, 2023, and will take place both at the NDE office located at 7, Barikisu Iyede Street, Onike, Yaba, and across all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

The Lagos State NDE Coordinator, Mrs. Serena Edward, emphasised that this registration exercise is aimed at creating a comprehensive database of unemployed individuals in the state.

The NDE was set up by the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1986 to curb mass unemployment and reduce the craving for white-collar jobs that are not adequate for the teeming number of graduates churned out every year.

This registration exercise is part of the Federal Government’s initiative to have complete data on unemployed individuals in the country, to make adequate plans for them.

The registration exercise is open to all unemployed individuals in Lagos State, irrespective of their educational qualification.

The registration process is simple and straightforward. Applicants are expected to visit the NDE office at 7, Barikisu Iyede Street, Onike, Yaba or their designated local government offices, and fill out a registration form with their personal details, educational qualification, and employment status.

They are also expected to provide their contact information, including their phone number and email address.

The registration exercise is free, and applicants are not required to pay any fee.

Applicants are advised to come along with a valid means of identification, such as a National Identity Card, Voter’s Card, or Driver’s License.

The NDE stated that the database of registered unemployed individuals will be used to create employment opportunities in the state.

The NDE will work with various stakeholders, including the private sector, to create job opportunities for the unemployed individuals in Lagos State.

This registration exercise is a welcome development, as it will provide the government with comprehensive data on the number of unemployed individuals in the state.

It will also create employment opportunities for the registered unemployed individuals.

The NDE has assured all registered unemployed individuals that their personal information will be treated with utmost confidentiality and will not be disclosed to any third party without their consent.
