Newcastle United star Alexander Isak has been sidelined for 10 games this season due to a recurring groin problem. Despite his injury, manager Eddie Howe has praised Isak’s physical condition, stating that he is “very good physically.” Isak recently scored his 20th and 21st goals of the campaign in a 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, becoming the first Newcastle player to reach that tally in the top-flight since Alan Shearer 20 years ago.
It is worth noting that Isak’s achievement is even more impressive considering the number of games he has missed due to the same injury. He first picked up the groin problem in October and has had subsequent absences in December and February. However, since his return, Isak has scored seven goals in as many Premier League appearances, putting him in contention for the Golden Boot award alongside players like Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.
Despite the absence of Callum Wilson for the past two months, Howe has been unable to rest Isak due to the lack of available options. Nevertheless, the Newcastle United boss is pleased with how Isak has handled the demands, as the striker has completed 90 minutes in each of his last six matches.
