Ed Sheeran says he “didn’t want to live any more” after the deaths of his friends Jamal Edwards and Shane Warne in 2022.

The international celebrity claimed in an interview with Rolling Stone that he has struggled with depression.

“You’re drowning beneath the waves. You merely sort of exist within this. And there is no way out.”

Given that he is the father of two girls, he was concerned that his ideas were “selfish”.

“Especially as a father, I feel really embarrassed about it.” Says the singer.

In the interview, Sheeran attributes his wife Cherry Seaborn’s encouragement to his decision to seek assistance.

“Where I’m from, nobody really talks about their sentiments, he said. “People in England think it’s strange to see a therapist,” To be able to talk to someone and just vent without feeling bad about it, in my opinion, is incredibly beneficial.

“I’ve obviously had an extremely fortunate life. So whenever they saw me, my friends would constantly say, “Oh, it’s not that bad.”

He continued, “The help isn’t a button you touch and then you’re automatically OK. It is something that must always be managed and is therefore a constant.

Edwards, who gave Sheeran his first big break, died suddenly from a heart attack in February 2022 after taking cocaine and drinking alcohol.

Sheeran said the death of his friend gave him a second thought about his drinking habit.

“I would never, ever, ever touch anything again, because that’s how Jamal died,” he added. “And that’s just disrespectful to his memory to even, like, go near.

Sheeran’s wife received a cancer diagnosis soon after Edwards passed away, but surgery couldn’t be performed until after Jupiter, their second daughter, was born.

Sheeran recalled, “You feel so helpless. Nothing can be done to change it.

The Sum Of It All, Sheeran’s upcoming Disney+ documentary, has a trailer that depicts the emotional toll those experiences took on him.

In one scene, the actor can be seen sobbing on stage as he struggles with the passing of Edwards and Seaborn’s condition while also dealing with a protracted copyright trial.

Seaborn remarks, “I’ve never seen him cry on stage,” He hasn’t had the time to process and be at peace with his thoughts.

Sheeran recently disclosed that the “backdrop of grief and hope” he went through last year served as the inspiration for the entirety of his new album, Subtract.
