Rapper Ja Rule, whose real name is Jeffrey Bruce Atkins Sr, has revealed that he has been denied entry into the UK just days before his tour was scheduled to begin in Cardiff.
The 47-year-old musician was set to kick off the British leg of his Sunrise tour at the Utilita Arena on Friday, followed by gigs in London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, and Liverpool.
Ja Rule cited his criminal record as the reason behind the refusal, stating that the UK is one of the few European countries that restricts entry to individuals with criminal records.
He explained that those who have been convicted of a crime punishable by 23 months or more under British law, or have served more than 12 months in prison, are likely to be denied entry.
Expressing his disappointment, Ja Rule took to social media to share his frustration. He mentioned that he had invested a significant amount of his own money, approximately half a million dollars, to organize the tour, only to be denied entry days before the shows.
The rapper emphasized that this situation is unfair to both him and his fans, as the venues were already 85% sold out. Despite the setback, tickets for the shows are still available on Ticketmaster.
Concerns about refunds were raised by fans, prompting the customer service team of the ticketing website to assure customers that they will be notified via email once confirmed information is received.
Ja Rule’s fans in the UK will have to wait for another opportunity to see him perform as he deals with the disappointment of being denied entry into the country for his tour.
