Moji Afolayan has opened up about how her refusal to exchange sexual favors for roles led to her being sidelined by film marketers in Nollywood, NaijNaira can report.

In a recent interview with Oyinmomo TV, the veteran actress and daughter of late actor Adeyemi ‘Adeluv’ Afolayan, shared how standing by her values came at a personal and professional cost.

She recalled how film marketers at Idumota, who funded many movies at the time, expected intimacy in return for opportunities.

“Due to my upbringing, I couldn’t trade my body for film roles. Even my husband hasn’t touched me before marriage,” she said.

Afolayan stated that after turning down several advances, marketers held secret meetings to blacklist her from movie projects.

“I didn’t sleep with them. That’s why they stopped calling me,” she said, stressing the long-term impact on her income and visibility.

She alleged that even some married actresses gave in to the practice while keeping it hidden from their spouses.

“They’d say, ‘is it only your husband?’ Then I’d tell them to keep their help,” she added.

Moji also remembered a late colleague who was rejected after refusing similar demands from a marketer.

“She told me to hold on to my dignity. The marketer said he had slept with almost everyone,” she said.

According to Afolayan, digital platforms like YouTube eventually offered her a path to share her work.

Despite the setback, she said she values her self-respect and body above fame or money.

Afolayan, who is married to Rasaq ‘Ojopagogo’ Olayiwola, emphasized that keeping her dignity intact remains her biggest achievement.
