The Imo State Council of Elders has endorsed the second term bid of Governor Hope Uzodinma during their visit to the Government House in Owerri, the state capital on Wednesday.
The council led by the Chairman, Dr. Cletus Iluomuanya, declared their support for Uzodinma’s re-election, citing his developmental agenda for the state as the reason for their endorsement.
Dr. Iluomunaya also urged politicians in the state to adopt the Imo Charter of Equity, which proposes a fair and equitable rotation of power and key political offices among the three senatorial zones in the state.
This move would ensure that all zones have equal representation and a chance to govern the state.
The council chairman also presented Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu to the governor as the consensus candidate for the next President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, replacing the late Ambassador George Obiozor.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo is a socio-cultural organization that represents the interests of the Igbo people in Nigeria and the diaspora.
In response to the endorsement, Governor Uzodinma welcomed the idea of the Imo Charter of Equity, stating that it would redefine the political landscape of the state and serve the ultimate good of all its people.
He also expressed his administration’s commitment to supporting the position of the council of elders on Iwuanyanwu as the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
