The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the capture of Salisu Buhari, one of the criminals who escaped from the Kuje Correctional Centre during the July 2022 prison break.
Buhari was arrested with his friend Zubairu Ali after they were accused of stealing a motorcycle in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement signed by the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ramhan Nansel, the arrest of Buhari was confirmed.
Namsel disclosed that the fugitive was captured by police operatives attached to the Nassarawa Division on April 6, 2023, at about 10:00 pm.
Nansel further explained that investigations revealed that Buhari and his accomplice, Ali, were responsible for most of the motorcycle thefts and snatching in Nasarawa LGA and its environs.
Buhari confessed during interrogation that he had escaped from the Kuje Correctional Centre when the facility was attacked last year.
Buhari also revealed that he linked up with his partner in crime, Ali, after escaping from the prison.
The police have since transferred the case to the state Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia, the state capital, for an exhaustive investigation.
The arrest of Buhari comes after the police had earlier apprehended one of the prison escapees, Hassan Hassan, on July 9, 2022.
The police have continued to intensify their efforts in capturing other escapees and reducing crime in the state.
The Kuje Correctional Centre jailbreak in July 2022 was a major security challenge that resulted in the escape of hundreds of inmates, including high-profile criminals.
