Akin Osuntokun, the Director General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, has attributed Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the Supreme Court to the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
Osuntokun explained that the BVAS system prevents overvoting, which was the main argument against Adeleke.
While figures can be manipulated, the number of registered voters cannot be added to at a polling unit.
The BVAS system was used appropriately in the Osun governorship election, according to Osuntokun.
The Supreme Court affirmed Adeleke as the duly elected governor of Osun State on Tuesday, after the Court of Appeal had previously upheld his victory.
The court held that Oyetola failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove his allegation of overvoting in the July 16, 2022, gubernatorial election.
The court also found that the election tribunal in Osun had not considered preliminary objections raised by Adeleke and the PDP, which amounted to a denial of fair hearing and rendered the entire proceeding null and void.
