Manchester City has reached an agreement to sell full-back Joao Cancelo to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal for a sum of £21.2 million.
The Portugal international has recently fallen out of favor at City having spent the last 19 months on loan at two different clubs.
He is expected to settle personal terms and finalize his departure soon.
Cancelo was named in the Premier League Team of the Year for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons and has had an eventful career since joining Manchester City from Juventus in 2019 for £60 million.
However, in the second half of the 2022-23 season, he was loaned to Bayern Munich and then spent last season on loan at Barcelona.
His departure plays a significant role in Manchester City‘s summer sales, which have accumulated around £150 million, helping the club in meeting the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.
In addition to Cancelo’s sale, City also profited from Julian Alvarez‘s £82 million transfer to Atletico Madrid, among other player sales.
Al Hilal, on the other hand, is strengthening its squad with high-profile players, having already signed Cancelo’s Portugal teammate Ruben Neves, along with Neymar, Yassine Bounou, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Cancelo’s arrival will surely bolster the club’s defensive lineup.
