Former President Goodluck Jonathan has firmly denied endorsing President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027. The denial comes after a viral online story alleged that Jonathan expressed strong support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.
According to POLITICS NIGERIA, the story, titled “Tinubu Will Win 2027 Presidential Election – Goodluck Jonathan,” claimed that Jonathan made the remarks in Seoul, South Korea. He was in the country recently to receive the 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize.
However, Jonathan’s Media Office has called the report completely false. They stated that the former president never made any comments about the 2027 elections.
His Special Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, issued a statement on Wednesday dismissing the claim. He made it clear that Jonathan has not spoken to any journalist regarding the upcoming elections.
Eze described the circulating story as a product of misinformation. He noted it was being spread by what he called “agents of disinformation.”
In his words, “This is fake news fabricated by agents of disinformation. At no point did Dr. Jonathan speak to any journalist on the forthcoming 2027 elections.”
Jonathan’s team urged the public to disregard the report and be cautious about political content shared on social media.
