Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles’ coach, has set his sights on coming out victorious from the 2023 AFCON tournament.
After a disappointing few years for the Nigerian men’s national team under Eguavoen, which included an early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations and losing their World Cup ticket to Ghana, things seem to have looked up for Nigeria since Peseiro took over in May.
He has guided them to two victories against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe, but also five losses to Mexico, Ecuador, Algeria, Costa Rica and Portugal.
However, now that they are preparing for the 2023 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast and with the support of quality players, Peseiro believes they can reach their target.
To achieve this he is focusing on creating a high level of organization and coaching methodology as well as tactical tactics such as high-pressure attacking football.
He is hoping these improvements will give Nigeria a leg up when they compete in future international friendlies and qualifications throughout 2023.
