On Wednesday, a devastating explosion occurred on Olusesi street in the Ifako-Ishaga area of Lagos, leaving many workers and students stranded. As a result, the road leading to Iju Ishaga has been closed to traffic, causing further inconvenience for commuters.

The aftermath of the explosion has also led to transporters taking advantage of the situation by hiking their fares, exacerbating the already existing cost of living crisis in the area.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported at the time of filing this report, thanks to the prompt response of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. According to a witness, the explosion was caused by a gas leak from a small shop near Kenzo filling station, dispelling rumors that it originated from elsewhere.

Margaret Adeseye, the director of the Lagos state fire service, confirmed that the explosion occurred at Agbado Road, Toyin Bus Stop, Iju Ishaga. She stated that the fire was reported at 22:04hrs on Tuesday and was caused by a gas tanker that accidentally caught fire.

Efforts are currently underway to prevent the further spread of the fire, which has been contained within the tanker and a row of adjoining shops.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service assures the public of their safety and advises them to keep a safe distance from the scene.
