Adejo Okeme, a lawyer, has emerged as the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the Kogi State governorship election scheduled for November 11, 2023.

Okeme secured 127 votes at the party’s primary election conducted on Sunday in Lokoja, defeating Isaac Alfa, his closest rival, who polled 69 votes.

The LP primary was an indirect one, with a total of 196 delegates from the state’s 21 local government areas participating.

The primary election was supervised by a seven-member committee led by Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, the LP Deputy National Chairman.

Olorunfemi, while announcing the result of the primary election, declared Okeme as the winner of the Labour Party primary election 2023.

He added that Okeme, having scored the majority of the lawful votes cast, emerged as the party’s candidate for the governorship election in Kogi State.

In his acceptance speech, Okeme expressed his gratitude to the delegates for voting for him, promising not to disappoint the party and the people of Kogi State if elected.

He promised to work towards the development of the state, tackling issues such as insecurity, youth unemployment, and economic growth.

With the LP primary election concluded, all eyes are now set on the general election, which is expected to be a fierce contest between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
