The Police at the Adeniji Adele Division, Lagos Island, Southwest Nigeria have arrested three Lagos Island teenagers and charged them before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly conniving with two others still at large to defi1e a 17-year-old student.
They inflicted injury on the girl’s private parts in the process and was rushed to the hospital.
According to the police, the defendants, Tunde Sulaiman,17, Shonibare Abdullahi, 16, and Oshodi Khalid,17, lured the victim to New World Hotel located at Hawley Street, Lagos Island and took turns to defile her and warned her not to tell anyone and that they would kill her if she dared inform anyone.
Police further alleged that nemesis, however, caught up with the defendants when the victim narrated her ordeals to her mother who reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Adeniji Adele Division, Lagos.
Following the report, the DPO swiftly directed his men to arrest the defendants anywhere they might be hiding and the police through intelligence gathering arrested the defendants at their hideout on Lagos Island.
Narrating the ugly incident to the Police, the victim, a student and resident of Campbell Street, Lagos Island stated: “Sulaiman told me that he was going to New World Hotel and that he doesn’t know the place, but because I know him, I took him to the hotel, and he pleaded with me to follow him to see a friend in one of the hotel rooms.
“But I was surprised Sulaiman pushed me to the bed and used a bed sheet to cover my mouth and had 3ex with me, and his four friends later started coming into the room one after the other to take turns to have 3ex with me and they later warned me not to tell anyone or else they would kill me.”
The defendants were charged before the Court on a two-count charge bordering on conduct likely to cause the breach of peace and defiling a 17-year-old girl.
Police Prosecuting Counsel, Inspector Koti Aodohemba informed the Court in the charge marked TO/8/2023 that the defendants and two others still at large committed the offence on 25 April 2023 at New World Hotel, Hawley Street, Lagos Island, Lagos.
Aodohemba told the court that the defendants lured the victim to the hotel and took turns assaulting her 3exu*lly before they were arrested.
He said the offences the defendants committed were punishable under sessions 168 (D) and 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The plea of the defendants was, however, not taken and the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs Omoyele ordered that the defendants be detained at the Lagos State Teenage Correctional Facility at Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos pending advice on the matter from the Department of Public Prosecution, DPP’s office.
Omoyele also directed that the victim be kept at the Lagos State Correctional facility for girls in Idi-Araba, Surulere, Lagos and adjourned the case till 1 June 2023 for the DPP’s advice report.
