Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and members of the State House of Assembly held a crucial meeting with the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) on February 3, 2025, to discuss the ongoing crisis within the state House of Assembly.
The closed-door meeting, held at the Lagos House, Marina, focused on resolving the political turmoil surrounding the removal of former Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
Obasa, who served as Speaker from 2015 until his removal on January 13, 2025, by 32 members of the Assembly, has been at the center of a storm of allegations, including misconduct, abuse of office, and financial mismanagement.
His removal sparked intense political friction in Lagos, further fueled by reports of a possible reinstatement ordered by President Bola Tinubu, a claim that remains unconfirmed despite circulating rumors.
Although the agenda of the meeting was kept private, sources suggest that the discussions were tied to the fallout from Obasa’s removal and the subsequent controversy.
The Department of State Services (DSS) intervened on January 30, 2025, following a petition by Obasa, which alleged that his ouster was politically motivated. DSS officials questioned several lawmakers, but all were released later that evening.
Since his return from the United States, Obasa has vehemently denied the corruption allegations against him and criticized the process behind his removal.
He has called for a proper review of his case, maintaining that the action was politically orchestrated.
Amid this turmoil, rumors about his reinstatement persist, though no official confirmation has emerged. The political tension in Lagos remains high as the matter unfolds.
