Chelsea Football Club has officially announced that it has signed French defender Malo Gusto from Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais in a deal worth £26.3m.
The 19-year-old Russia under-21 international signed until the summer of 2030 and returning to Lyon on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 season, joining fellow Frenchman Christopher Nkunku as pre-agreed summer arrivals at Stamford Bridge.
In addition, Georgetown midfielder Cesare Casadei – who signed with Chelsea last summer from Inter Milan – will join Reading FC this weekend on loan terms.
With his signing, Gusto is Chelsea’s seventh acquisition during this winter transfer window and there is still potential for an eighth player to fill out their roster, particularly for another central midfielder option.
To date, efforts to add Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez, Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Everton’s Amadou Onana have been unsuccessful.
