Manchester City are considering a move for Mateo Kovacic as an alternative to Jude Bellingham, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The 28-year-old midfielder has been on City’s radar since his days at Real Madrid.
Following his successful stint at Chelsea, where he arrived on loan and eventually signed permanently, the club is now interested in signing him up.
With Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva’s futures uncertain, City could swoop in for Kovacic who is seen as a cheaper alternative than Bellingham.
As the Croatian’s contract is set to expire in 2024 he could be available at a reasonable price this summer.
He would be seen as an immediate replacement for those players leaving and provide some much needed strength in midfield for City.
But before any transfer can be made, it depends heavily on whether Chelsea approves of releasing one of their fan favourites and limiting their own squad size with other stars potentially leaving Stamford Bridge too.
