Manchester United are already thought to be planning ahead for the mid-season market, with Erik ten Hag eager to add more quality to his squad when the bidding re-opens.

The Red Devils are believed to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper to serve as a long-term replacement for David de Gea, who has come under fire after a string of sub-par performances since the beginning of the campaign.

They are said to be considering a January move for Porto stopper Diogo Costa, who was watched by a United scout against Braga on Friday evening, according to A Bola.

It is said that United were one of around 17 clubs to have been represented at the fixture, which saw Porto register a comfortable 4-1 win over their high-flying Primeira Liga opponents.

The Red Devils have been keeping an eye on Costa’s development for a number of months, with Sport Witness having claimed that he was initially earmarked as a potential target over the summer.

Costa’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is reportedly planning to secure a big move for his client over the coming months and has identified United as one of the standout candidates for his signature alongside Atletico Madrid.

It remains to be seen whether a Premier League switch will eventually come to fruition, though, with the player still tied down to Porto until the summer of 2026 as things stand.
