Man Utd takeover Bidder could trigger Glazers' exit with 'huge price' clause

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a bidder for Manchester United, may have the power to force the Glazer family to sell their remaining shares if his takeover bid is successful.

Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim are the leading contenders to become the new majority stakeholder of the football club, with Ratcliffe currently in the lead.

If Ratcliffe gains control, he will have a put-and-call option that allows him to force the Glazers to sell their remaining shares at an agreed price in the future.

This gives all parties flexibility going forward.

However, finance expert Kieran Maguire believes that Ratcliffe may not want to overburden his cash flow with a huge takeover price and may prefer to spread the cost.

Meanwhile, Stan Collymore believes that the Glazers are using Ratcliffe to force Sheikh Jassim to increase his offer.

The uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership has caused concern for fans and for manager Ten Hag, who needs a resolution in place as soon as possible to begin planning for next season.
