Super Eagles star, Victor Osimhen is one of the strikers on Manchester United’s radar in their prospective quest to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.
But Napoli’s number nine could end up wearing another famous shirt number should he decide to swap Italy for Old Trafford and the Premier League next summer.
As the dust continues to settle on Ronaldo’s jaw-dropping interview with Piers Morgan, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could yet be sacked and sued by the club following his outburst.
According to Manchester Evening News, Osimhen is wanted by United and he continues to show off his goalscoring prowess with Napoli this season.
The Nigerian striker has scored 10 goals in 14 games in all competitions and his overall record for the club reads 38 goals in 76 matches.
Osimhen has an equally impressive tally at international level for Nigeria (15 goals in 23 appearances) and before his €75million arrival in Serie A, the 23-year-old also caught the eye in France with Lille.
But does his spell in Ligue 1 offer up the biggest hint at what jersey he might take following a would-be move to United?
As things stand, the number nine shirt he wears for club and country is occupied by Anthony Martial – though he did switch over to number 11 when Romelu Lukaku was signed.
After initially donning the number 16 and 12 shirts at Lille, the Lagos-born frontman later switched to number seven – which could be vacated by Ronaldo.
If that does happen, United players Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho might also have their eye on the famous jersey, while Osimhen and other possible signings have other options.
Indeed, numbers 13, 15, 24 and 37 have not been assigned at Old Trafford throughout the 2022/2023 campaign.
