Orlando City’s impressive winning run came to a halt on Saturday night as Nashville SC handed them a crushing 5-1 defeat at GEODIS Park – www.naijnaira.com reports.
The home side struck early when Sam Surridge opened the scoring in just the third minute, setting the tone for a long night.
By the 17th minute, Hany Mukhtar doubled the lead, finishing calmly from Josh Bauer’s assist.
The pressure didn’t let up, and Mukhtar added a second before halftime, making it 3-0 with Jacob Shaffelburg providing the setup.
Moments later, Surridge netted again, this time from Shaffelburg and Jeisson Palacios, putting Nashville 4-0 up before the break.
Orlando finally responded in the 76th minute when Luis Muriel came off the bench and struck his ninth MLS goal of the season, finishing a move started by debutant Adrián Marín.
But Nashville capped the night deep in stoppage time with Palacios scoring the fifth, assisted by Mukhtar and Bauer.
Coach Oscar Pareja admitted, “It was a difficult night, conceding that many goals… but the boys never gave up.”
Orlando now turns focus to a quick turnaround against Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup semifinals on Wednesday.
