The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning about a three-day period of hazy and cloudy weather across the country. The agency advises people with respiratory issues to take precautions and wear masks.

According to NiMet’s weather outlook, there will be moderate dust haze with a visibility range of 2km to 5km over the northern and north-central states from Monday to Wednesday.

However, there will be patches of clouds in the hazy atmosphere in Benue, Kogi, and Kwara. For the southern inland regions, patches of clouds are expected throughout the forecast period.

In the mornings, there will be patches of clouds over the coast, with a chance of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours in states such as Edo, Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa.

On Tuesday, the northern and north-central regions will experience moderate dust haze, except in Kwara, Benue, and Kogi where patches of clouds are anticipated.

In the southern inland regions, there will be patches of clouds in the morning and isolated thunderstorms later in the day in states like Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, Edo, Imo, Enugu, Lagos, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa.

On Wednesday, there will be a slight dust haze over the northern region, while the north-central region will have patches of clouds except in Plateau, Kwara, Benue, and Kogi where isolated thunderstorms are expected.

The southern inland regions will have patches of clouds in the morning and prospects of isolated thunderstorms later in the day in states like Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Edo, Oyo, Ondo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Delta.

NiMet advises people with respiratory issues to wear face masks and for children and the elderly to wear warm clothing at night. It also recommends moisturizing the skin and lips due to the weather conditions.

Airline operators are advised to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
