Nollywood actress Ethel Ekpe, known for her role as ‘Segi’ in the popular sitcom “Basi and Company,” has sadly passed away in Lagos State.
The talented actress, who rose to fame in the 1990s, was reported to have lost her battle with cancer on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
Ethel Ekpe’s impressive career spanned several notable productions, including Amaka Igwe’s “Forever” and the TV series “Sons of the Caliphate.”

Her passing was announced by Dr. Shaibu Husseini, the Director-General of the National Film and Video Censors Board, through a heartfelt Facebook post.
In his post, Dr. Husseini expressed his sadness over the loss, stating, “I have been reliably informed that Ethel Ekpe, the screen beauty that delighted fans with her unforgettable portrayal of Segi in the sitcom ‘Basi and Company’ has passed on.”
He also mentioned that Ethel Ekpe had transitioned from acting to become a pastor in later years.
Ethel Ekpe’s passing is a significant loss to the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Dr. Husseini further shared that his family had a personal connection with the late actress, as they named their second daughter Ethel after her.
He concluded his post by saying, “She will be sorely missed. Good night, good woman!”
