Former Manchester United defender Rafael da Silva has publicly expressed his support for Victor Osimhen as the ideal striker to lead Manchester United’s frontline. According to report, Rafael prefers Osimhen over the club’s current striker, Rasmus Hojlund.
Victor Osimhen impressed fans and critics alike during his loan spell at Galatasaray in the 2024–25 season. He scored an impressive 36 goals and provided eight assists in 44 appearances, showcasing his ability as a prolific and complete forward. Rafael described Osimhen as a “very good player” and emphasized his preference: “I have to say I prefer him over Hojlund for sure. He’s 100%.”
Despite Rafael’s praise for Osimhen, he was less convinced about Hojlund’s impact at Old Trafford. The former Premier League champion stated, “I’m not a fan of Hojlund, I hope he gets better. I don’t know if he will stay at Manchester United or not.” This comment has raised questions about the Danish striker’s future with the club.
Osimhen, aged 26, also topped the Turkish Super Lig scoring charts with 25 goals in 29 matches this season. Additionally, he led Serie A with 26 goals in the 2023–24 campaign, playing a key role in Napoli’s first league title in over 30 years. His consistent goal-scoring ability has made him a target for several top European clubs.
Meanwhile, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim recently defended Hojlund following criticism of the striker’s recent performances. However, with United preparing to strengthen their attack for the upcoming season, interest in Osimhen remains strong. The move is still uncertain, especially because Manchester United will not participate in next season’s Champions League.
