Gideon Ikhine, a former governorship aspirant and Deputy Director General of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council, has announced his departure from the party and his intention to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ikhine, who had previously stepped down from his own governorship aspirations to support Governor Godwin Obaseki, did not disclose the specific reasons for leaving the PDP.
However, he expressed his commitment to serving the people of Ward 7, Esan-West Local Government, and Edo State in another capacity.
Ikhine said “It has been a great honour to contribute to the growth and success of this party over the years, with the People Democratic Party recording outstanding results from my Ward all through the 24 years of working with you.
“My commitment to the people of Ward 7, Esan-West Local Government and Edo people remains firm and resolute to keep serving them in another capacity.”
It is reported that there was an understanding between Ikhine and Governor Obaseki regarding his candidacy for the 2024 elections, but it appears that the governor is not honoring that agreement.
Ikhine stated that he is currently consulting and will soon address the public to provide further clarity on his decision.
