Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has been released on bail by the Chief Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos State, following his alleged assault on a police officer.
The court also ordered the police to complete their investigation within 48 hours.
The police prosecutor had requested that Kuti be remanded for 21 days to allow for the preparation of legal advice by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
However, Kuti’s defense counsel, Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, opposed the plea and begged the court not to remand his client.
Kuti was arrested for slapping an officer after his vehicle was stopped on Third Mainland Bridge.
