In a bid to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has granted pardon to forty-three inmates who were serving various jail terms across the state.
The announcement was made on Friday at the Goron Dutse custodial facility.
The governor was represented by his Deputy, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who stated that the administration had acquitted four thousand and thirteen inmates and had also paid fines and compensations to the tune of N4,949,000.
The Governor urged the pardoned prisoners to demonstrate good behavior after being reintegrated into society. This gesture will go a long way in decongesting the correctional facilities and create a peaceful atmosphere.
The State Controller of the correctional service, Suleiman Muhammad Inuwa, commended the Governor’s action, noting that the decision would assist in the effective rehabilitation of the inmates.
Governor Ganduje’s pardon is a clear indication that the Kano State Government is committed to improving the welfare of its citizens, particularly those who have found themselves on the wrong side of the law.
The move will also help to decongest the correctional facilities and ensure that those who have been pardoned are given a chance to reform and contribute positively to society.
