President Bola Tinubu hosted Aliko Dangote at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday evening for a closed-door discussion that drew attention to Nigeria’s oil and gas landscape, NaijNaira can report.
PM News Nigeria confirmed that the visit came weeks after Tinubu toured the massive Dangote Refinery complex in Lagos, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.
Earlier that day, Tinubu addressed participants of the West African Refined Fuel Conference through a post on his official X page, where he emphasized Africa’s need to command more control in energy pricing.
“Africa can no longer be a price taker. We must set transparent benchmarks that reflect our true value and protect our economies,” Tinubu stated.
He added that efforts were already in motion to create an integrated African energy market in collaboration with neighboring nations.
“From refining to regulation and trade flows, we’re building a market that rewards production and secures energy for our people,” Tinubu added.
Speaking at the conference, Dangote detailed ongoing structural hurdles facing refinery projects across Africa.
“Besides poor infrastructure, our biggest problem lies in rent-seeking throughout the petroleum value chain across Africa,” he explained.
He warned that established interests often resist change: “When a refinery disrupts this setup, it challenges powerful forces determined to resist and maintain the status quo.”
