Manchester City are reportedly joining Newcastle United in their interest for Leicester City superstar James Maddison as the summer transfer window approaches.
According to Daily Mail reporter Jack Gaughan, the Sky Blues are actively monitoring the 26-year-old midfielder, who is seen by many as an “extraordinary” player.
Eddie Howe has been keen to acquire Maddison at St James’ Park since last summer and even submitted two bids valued up to £50m that were denied by Leicester.
However, with recent reports suggesting that none of Foxes’ key players will leave before the upcoming window, it looks like Man City might be stepping up their pursuit of Maddison sooner rather than later.
While historically a move to City would have almost certainly assured regular playing time for a player of this caliber, the tables seem to have turned with Newcastle now boasting a rosier financial picture combined with great success in both domestic and European competitions.
Therefore if Maddison had to make a choice between these two clubs come summertime, there’s no doubt he’d be better off opting for the Magpies due to their guarantee of more minutes on the pitch than what Pep Guardiola could offer him at Etihad Stadium.
