Russia-Ukraine tensions rise as reports of downed 4 military aircraft surface

Reports have surfaced of four military aircraft being shot down close to the Ukrainian border in Russia’s Bryansk region, causing tensions to rise between Russia and Ukraine.

Kommersant, a respected Russian news outlet, reported that a Russian Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bomber, Su-35 fighter, and two Mi-8 helicopters were “shot down almost simultaneously” in an ambush in the Bryansk region, adjoining northeast Ukraine.

The same assertion was made by several heavily followed pro-war military bloggers.

The Russian state news agency TASS reported that a Russian Su-34 warplane had crashed in the region, but did not specify a cause.

The Institute for the Study of War reported that geolocated footage from the crash sites placed the incident some 50km from the Ukrainian border.

Earlier on Saturday, Ukraine reported numerous Russian drone attacks and several explosions in the western Ukrainian region of Khmelnytsky.
