Semi Ajayi Club Career
Semi Ajayi began his football tutelage at the Charlton Athletic Academy and proceeded to the reserves team of the club. Ajayi was once selected on the substitutes’ bench in 2013 but he never played a senior game for Charlton.
He joined Arsenal Academy in 2013 for trials. He mostly played in the Gunners’ U21 side and also made it to the senior team’s substitutes bench for a couple of Premier League games but again, never played a senior game for Arsenal.
After two years of no senior appearance at the Emirates, Semilogo Ajayi joined Cardiff City on loan in 2015 and made the move permanent in the same year.
A couple of loan spells at AFC Wimbledon, Crewe Alexandra, and Rotherham United were followed by a permeant deal at Rotherham United between 2017 and 2019.
After two hugely successful years at Rotherham, Semi Ajayi secured a move to West Bromwich Albion in 2019 where he played in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season before his side got relegated.
Super Eagles Career
His early inclusion into the Nigeria U20 Flying Eagles team before the 2013 Toulon Tournament averted a possible nationality switch to the English national team; hence, he became a full-fledged Nigerian international.
At the Toulon Football Tournament, Ajayi represented the Flying Eagles three times, against Belgium, Portugal, and Brazil, respectively.
Ajayi was handed a maiden call-up to the Super Eagles in August 2018 for the 2019 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers, making his debut against Seychelles in the 2019 Nation cup qualifiers as a substitute for the injured Chidozie Awaziem in the second half.
