The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has maintained pressure on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to explain ₦210 trillion in financial discrepancies found in its audited reports, NaijNaira can report. The lawmakers said these funds were not “netted off,” and demanded detailed clarifications.
According to Daily Post Nigeria, the Senate issued a final summons to NNPCL Group CEO, Mr. Bayo Ojulari, to answer 11 unresolved financial queries. However, he was absent, sending Chief Financial Officer Dapo Segun instead, who cited Ojulari’s OPEC obligations abroad.
“We never said NNPCL stole ₦210 trillion, but we insist you must account for it,” said Senator Aliyu Wadada. Senator Abdul Ningi criticized Ojulari’s absence, saying, “Nigerians gave you this position, and now they’re asking you to explain how their oil money is being handled.”
Senator Adams Oshiomhole called NNPCL’s record “dirty” and emphasized the need for transparency. Wadada listed committee members with top financial expertise, rejecting claims they misunderstood the documents.
Among the issues are ₦103 trillion in accrued expenses and equally massive receivables, some of which appear to contradict earlier filings. The Senate adjourned until Tuesday and expects Ojulari to appear for a detailed response.
