Skimzo emerges Naija Star Search first winner with N5m grand prize

Mettle singer and songwriter, Opeyemi Lateef aka Skimzo beat two other top finalists 21-year-old Melo, and 22-year-old Eniola in the Afrobeats-themed talent hunt show, Naija Star Search to get the lion’s share out of the N10 million total prize for winner and runner-ups.

Eniola, the 1st runner-up got N3 million, while the second runner-up, Melo, won N2 million.

Three other contestants Khaleed, Black Bella, and Kachi, who came back to the show based on audience and judges’ votes, struggled to get the three finalists off the winning board but failed.

Skimzo deftly edged out his competitors with a powerful performance that not only wowed the audience and judges but also won him the highest number of votes at the grand finale.

Overall, the finalists delivered impressive performances that left the judges Kenny Ogungbe, ID Cabasa, and Asha Gangali in a state of awe.

In August 2022, StarTimes Nigeria revealed that it has entered into a partnership with Kennis Music international to create Naija Star Search, a platform to discover new music talents capable of disrupting the Afrobeats scene, becoming the next music star and preserving the Afrobeats genre.
