Omoyele Sowore expressed disappointment over the absence of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, and Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello, at the 2023 Abuja Marathon.

The maiden edition of the Abuja International Marathon took place on Saturday, April 29, and Sowore was among the participants.

Speaking to journalists after the race, Sowore lamented the absence of prominent figures at the event.

Sowore said, “This is the first Abuja marathon, I participated and I ran longer than I expected. I expected that the Minister of FCT would be here. I was even expecting Tinubu to be here, but apparently, I am the only presidential candidate standing after the election.”

The rights activist emphasized the importance of sports in uniting Nigerians and creating employment opportunities for the youth.

“I ran with kids, great kids. I am of the opinion that we are wasting a lot of talents in this country,” he said.

Sowore’s remarks have generated mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media.

Some have commended him for advocating for the development of sports in the country, while others have criticized him for politicizing the event.
