Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. had his red card rescinded by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) after being racially abused during a LaLiga match against Valencia.

The Brazilian player was sent off in stoppage time for striking an opponent after being grabbed around the neck by Valencia players.

Vinicius had earlier been racially abused by fans, leading to a 10-minute halt in the game.

The RFEF rescinded the red card, stating that the referee’s decision was affected by the omission of the entirety of the play.

Seven people accused of hate crimes against Vinicius were detained by Spanish police.

The RFEF also fined Valencia 45,000 euros and partially closed the south stand of the stadium for five matches.

Valencia called the sanction “disproportionate” and “unfair” and plans to appeal.
