Spotify Fined $5.4 Million for Not Informing Users on Data Collection

Swedish authorities have fined music streaming platform Spotify 58 million kronor ($5.4 million) for failing to properly inform users about how their data was being collected and used.

The Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) found that while Spotify did provide data when requested, it had not been specific enough about how that data was being used.

Under GDPR rules, users have the right to know what data a company holds about them and how it is being used.

Spotify, which plans to appeal the decision, said it offered comprehensive information about data processing.

The fine was based on Spotify’s user count and revenue.
