Two high-ranking members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senators Ayo Akinyelure and Matthew Urhoghide, have resigned from the party citing internal power struggles as their reason.
The senators, who represent Ondo Central and Edo South senatorial districts respectively, submitted their resignation letters to Senate President Ahmed Lawan.
While Urhoghide’s resignation took immediate effect, Akinyelure’s will be effective from June 11, when his third term in the senate ends.
The senators did not mention which party they will be joining, but the deputy senate president suggested they consider the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
