Allegations of a cover-up regarding the whereabouts and state of health of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, have been raised by a spokesman of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
Daniel Bwala, in a tweet, stated that old photographs of Tinubu were being posted as new ones, which suggests that there might be a cover-up regarding his whereabouts and state of health.
He urged the public to pray for the president-elect instead of speculating about his health.
The opposition party has expressed concerns over the health of Tinubu, who is widely regarded as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a potential presidential candidate for the party in the 2023 general elections.
However, the APC has dismissed the allegations of a cover-up regarding Tinubu’s health and whereabouts, describing them as baseless and unfounded.
In a statement by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the party stated that Tinubu’s absence from public events was due to his need for rest and that there was no need for alarm.
The statement read, “We are aware that our leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has been out of the country for some time now. This is not unusual, as he is a private citizen and is entitled to his privacy. However, we wish to state categorically that there is no cause for alarm regarding his health.
“Asiwaju Tinubu is hale and hearty and is taking a much-deserved rest after a hectic political campaign. We urge Nigerians to ignore the baseless and unfounded rumours being peddled by some individuals who are bent on causing mischief and creating unnecessary tension in the polity.”
The APC also urged Nigerians to disregard any information that is not officially communicated by the party or Tinubu’s family.
