Chelsea are looking to make an improved offer for Enzo Fernandez this week ahead of the January transfer deadline, with Benfica preparing for a potential new bid from the Blues.
The 21-year-old Argentine has long been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and has been the subject of an ongoing transfer saga which is set to reach a conclusion before Tuesday’s 11pm (UK) deadline.
Reports have suggested that Chelsea will put forward a fee of €100 million plus some players, with Hakim Ziyech, David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos previously offered in exchange.
Benfica boss Roger Schmidt is confident that Fernandez will stay at the Portuguese club until the end of the season as he believes there is nothing else in the player’s mindset.
However Benficas president Rui Costa wants to increase his release clause by €30 million up to €150 million as well as giving him €2million if he remains at the club beyond this January window.
