The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Africa’s Global Bank, recently made history with the appointment of Abiola Bawuah as the first female CEO of UBA Africa.
Mrs Bawuah is a Ghanaian national and will oversee operations across the African continent excluding Nigeria.
In addition to her appointment, the UBA Group Board now includes eight female Directors.
Prior to her appointment, Mrs Bawuah served as Regional CEO, West Africa, supervising the Group’s operations in nine countries.
Speaking on the new appointment, the Group Board Chairman Tony Elumelu expressed his excitement and stated that Mrs Bawuah has contributed significantly for UBA African’s growth over close to a decade.
With Mrs Bawuah’s appointment at the helm of UBA Africa and other key executive roles announced by the bank such as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) at UBA Ghana and Managing Director/CEO of UBA Liberia; Mr Samuel Oni who joined UBA Group in 2015 retired following his tenure.
With 25000 employees group-wide and serving 37 million customers globally in 24 countries, UBA continues to drive financial inclusion by introducing leading technology within their services.
