Premier League champions Liverpool are weighing a move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, with the forward reportedly eager to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season.
According to Caught Offside, citing Sky Sports, Liverpool’s new head coach Arne Slot is eyeing Osimhen as a solution to the club’s attacking inconsistency, particularly following Darwin Núñez’s underwhelming output last season.
Osimhen, who turns 27 later this year, enjoyed a standout loan spell at Galatasaray, scoring 37 goals in all competitions. He helped the Turkish giants clinch both the Süper Lig and Turkish Cup titles, further raising his profile ahead of the summer transfer window.
“I’ve won one of the most prestigious titles in world football. And I won it with a club that appreciates the little things you do for them,” Osimhen told Soccernet.ng in an earlier interview. “Whatever comes after this will also be big for me — like the Champions League, the League Cup, and all sorts.”
Liverpool are among the top clubs returning to the Champions League, and they are searching for a proven goal scorer to strengthen their title ambitions both domestically and in Europe.
With Chelsea pulling out of the race after securing Liam Delap, Liverpool may face less competition for Osimhen’s signature. However, as of now, no formal offer has been submitted.
Osimhen’s desire to join a club with serious continental ambitions may work in Liverpool’s favour, especially under the leadership of Arne Slot, who is looking to make his mark in his debut season at Anfield.
