Following Declan Rice’s departure, West Ham manager David Moyes has announced that Kurt Zouma will continue as captain for the current season.
Zouma was initially given the captain’s armband after Rice’s move to Arsenal.
Despite some uncertainty surrounding who would take on the role permanently, Zouma emerged as the favorite.
Moyes confirmed this decision in a press conference before West Ham’s match against Manchester City.
He praised Zouma for his performance as captain, highlighting the team’s success in the opening games.
This announcement comes after Zouma faced controversy in February 2022 when he was filmed kicking a cat in his kitchen.
Despite calls for disciplinary action, Moyes stood by his player and has now shown his faith in Zouma by entrusting him with the captaincy.
Zouma expressed remorse for his actions and acknowledged the support he received during that difficult time.
Since joining West Ham in 2021, Zouma has made significant contributions to the team, including winning the Champions League with Chelsea.
