The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called for patience amid the nation’s economic hurdles, urging Nigerians to trust in President Bola Tinubu’s policies.
Speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, Wike led members of the G-5 coalition and other political allies on a condolence visit to Governor Seyi Makinde, whose elder brother, Sunday Makinde, passed away on January 24, 2025, at the age of 65.
Among those present were former Abia and Benue governors, Okezie Ikpeazu and Samuel Ortom, alongside Senators Sandy Onor, Philip Aduda, Olaka Nwogu, Mao Ohuabunwa, and Chibudom Nwuche.
Acknowledging the country’s economic struggles, Wike assured Nigerians that Tinubu’s policies would yield long-term benefits.
“I always tell people—patience is key. We’ve faced immense challenges, but we must acknowledge the progress being made. Nigerians tend to forget where we were and the deliberate efforts to improve our situation.”
He stressed that positive change is a gradual process, not an overnight miracle:
“These policies will bring changes—some uncomfortable at first—but in the end, we will achieve the prosperity we seek.”
Reaffirming his confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, Wike assured that brighter days are ahead, despite current hardships.
“I know it’s tough now, but let’s not panic. The President genuinely cares, and I promise you—better days are coming.”
During the visit, he extended his deepest condolences to the Makinde family, underscoring the need for unity in difficult times.
“In moments of loss, solidarity matters most. We are here to stand with our brother, Makinde, and remind him—he’s not alone.”
Meanwhile, Bode George, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Board of Trustees chairman, also led a delegation, including former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, to pay their respects.
In his remarks, Makinde expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, urging political leaders to prioritize health and well-being, especially given the unpredictable nature of life.
