Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu is nearing a transfer back to Trabzonspor, the seven-time Turkish Super Lig champions, according to reports. The Nigerian forward previously excelled at the club during a loan spell, scoring 15 goals and earning a FIFA Puskas Award nomination.

Trabzonspor last won the league title with Onuachu’s compatriot Anthony Nwakaeme leading the attack. Since that victory, the club has slipped down the table, finishing 6th, 3rd, and 7th in recent seasons while Galatasaray dominated. Now, Trabzonspor aims to reclaim the title with key reinforcements like Onuachu.

Onuachu’s former loan season saw him make a significant impact in Turkey with 15 goals and four assists in 21 appearances. Despite efforts to keep him permanently, financial demands from Southampton halted the transfer. With Southampton relegated and Onuachu’s contract nearing its end, Trabzonspor is positioned to finalize the deal, reportedly worth around €6 million for a three-year contract.

If signed, Onuachu’s return could boost Trabzonspor’s bid to challenge rivals such as Fenerbahce, Besiktas, and Galatasaray in the upcoming Super Lig season.

“Onuachu contributed 15 goals and four assists in 21 appearances, with one goal nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award,” said sources close to the deal.
